How to unlock scans

when I start in PS,scan b&w film from twain/manual the fianal scan loads to PS in a locked layer. The layers menu lock options are greed out and I can not unlock the layer. Where’s the key?

Robert, if you double click on the layer in the Layers palette, you should get a pop-up entitled New Layer; rename it (or take the default Layer 0) and your layer is unlocked.
