PDF Slideshow and File Size

Hello, I have a question about PDF slideshow file sizes. I successfully created PDF slideshows in Photoshop Elements, however I found that even with a relatively small amount of photos (about 20) the PDF I eventually created was very large, too large to email. I tried saving the PDF as a zip file and then JPEG, but they were still pretty large (128 mb and 27 mb). Is there a way to make the PDF smaller, so I can email it? Or do I have to change the file size in Elements before creating a PDF slideshow.
