I noticed that on PSE you can’t free transform the square marquee without messing up the image. A friend of mine have a "A. Photoshop 7.0", I can free transform it first and the apply it to the image.

I have both PSE2 and PS7.
The free transform on a rectangular marquee seems to work identically in both programs.

Of course, you must use Shift to keep any resize proportional, and grabbing anything but the corners will warp the image also.

Since it will also downsample/upsample the area if changed after the initial selection, I’ve never really found much reason to use it myself.

On PS7, there’s a "Free transform selection" at the sub menu’s if I remember it right. And you can resize it on each side. After you’re done, it will ask you to apply it or not.
Maybe its just marketing, makes me want to get PS7…hehehe..

Free transform exactly the same in PS 7 or PE2.

Is menu item for any layer or selection.
Image/Transform/Free Transform in PE2
Edit/Free Transform in PS7

Control+T in Win versions fires it up also in either program.
