For some reason, my tools are not functioning. And I couldn’t find anything in the Help/Support files. I am using Windows XP. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you fix the problem?

Does this happen with all files of all formats?

If so, you may need to reset the PS Preferences.

See <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

Make sure you get a dialog box when you press the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys as you click the PS program icon.

I am having a similar problem. I, too, am using Windows XP (64-bit edition).

Specifically: When I am in Quick Mask Mode, my Brush Tool and my Eraser Tool have been known to switch properties. After a few days of switched properties, the Brush Tool took on the same property as the Eraser Tool. This happened to me a few months ago, and the IT guy here ended up having to completely uninstall and reinstall Photoshop CS2. That fixed the problem for awhile.

Just yesterday, it started to happen again. Now, I’m at the stage where I have the Brush Tool and the Eraser Tool properties switched in my Quick Mask Mode, and I imagine there’s only a matter of time before one of them matches the property of the other causing me utter madness. Is there a way to fix this other than uninstalling/reinstalling Photoshop CS2 entirely?

I’m going to check out the link that is posted in the prior reply to see if I can find some answers there, but I thought I’d share and hope to find some more answers.

I just tried deleting the Photoshop CS2 preferences from my computer, and it didn’t seem to make any difference.

Any new ideas?

Jenny,

That sounds as though you have merely switched foreground and background colours
