Hello all,

I am currently using:
Photoshop CS2.

What I am trying to do is print screen a google/msn/yahoo map on my monitor screen resolution: 1680×1050 saving as png or jpg with snipping tool built into windows vista.

all the previously mentioned works fine however when I open the image with cs2 and resize to a 5.5(long) x 3.9(wide) picture the map looks ok – however the text (i.e. street names) are so fuzzy they are unreadable.

Is what I a trying to do not possible?
Is photoshop the program I need to be using?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Where is the text fuzzy? On screen or once printed.

You are not resampling are you?

nomad, thank you for the quick response.

the text is fuzzy on the screen and once printed.

What I do to re-size the image is

Image -> Resize -> Document size: Width 5.5 Height 3.9 (inches).

Resolution(200 px/inch)
Constrain proportions (not checked)
Resample Image (checked – Bicubic Sharper)

thanks.

Any resizing/resampling of a screen grab will result in poor resolution.

In other words, don’t resample, or if you have to for screen captures only use nearest neighbour and only resample at an even multiple of t he existing resolution.

OK, thanks to everyone for the help.

I happen to find that out of google, msn, yahoo and esri; mapquest happen to have a map with bolder and slightly larger text. This cured it and the text looks fine.

btw… it seems like in my case bicubic sharper produced a nice image.

once again, thank you to everyone.

Tont,

Screenshots generally resize better using Nearest Neighbour interpolation.

Just as an aside – Think carefully before using these maps on a website. They are covered by copyright and you generally have to pay to use them in this way.

Creating a link, however, is generally free of charge.

chrisJbirchall,

At the moment I am using the maps to print and give to people.

however when I do use maps for webdevelopment I (as you point out) 1) link or 2) created the code and use any licensing / keys that are necessary by the provider.

My main focus is the backend of a website however I do at times have to come up and do a few things with UI.

Regards.
