I tested 10.5.6 on a partition with the old Canon iPF 1.30 drivers.
Looks like the only change that I can tell is that the media selection now makes the forced to Colorsync setting choose the profile (in the driver) that is set for that media in CU. That should work fine for canned profile and changes made in CU. But that is still double profiling.
If you want to be able to turn of CM in the drivers you are going to have to use the updated drivers that allow you to do that which already work correctly in 10.5.5. So far I have not seen any changes to those drivers with 10.5.6, and CM is still turned off when PS or LR manages color.
