Weird smudge tool in CS3

Since i updated to cs3 the smudge tool is acting kinda weird… not only on my CS3, in all my friends Cs3 is the same…

Always i smudge something this is what happens…

Finger painting is not selected, strength is at 65% and i´m using a normal round smooth brush (0% hardness)

In CS2 didn’t have this problem….

Anyone knows how to solve it?

Seems like it’s stuck on Finger Painting. Did you try resetting the tool? If that doesn’t work try resetting the Prefs (as per the FAQs)

have discovered the problem only manifests on a 8 bit color depth document

16 and 32 bits color depth works fine

is the vert banding compression or the what the tool is doing? The shape looks odd to.
