If you save a *.bmp file you can use the extended writing features and select something like 16 bit with "x1 r5 b5 g5" or "x4 g4 r4 b4" and sometimes "a4 r4 g4 b4". Here are three questions, where the first one is the important one:
1. For what does the "x" stand for?
2. For what does the "a" stand for? I wasn´t able to find a proper information in the format description of microsoft.
3. If "a" stands for alpha, how to use it?
