Why would you want to install something that you don’t know what it is? My Googling seems to indicate that payloads relate to installation files. Again, why would you want to install them.

I don’t know much about installation processes, but the jist of what I’ve read at least with regard to CS3, is that payloads essentially represent different modules of software that are installed to provide specific functionality. In general practice, a normal CS3 installation woud likely be installing all payloads, but the installation can be modified to exclude those not deemed necessary by an experienced user who is familiar in how to edit the installation process. It may be as simple as launching some sort of enhanced installation GUI where you deselect all payloads that aren’t desired.
