I have imported a rectangular photo into PS CS3. I want to define and select a circular area of the photo which I will then save as a new file. I know the save as part, but not the define and select part. Thanks.

Hello,
– In the Toolbox, choose the Elliptical Marquee Tool
– Drag over your image to select circular area
– Copy the selection to clipboard (Edit > Copy)
– Create a new document (File > New); in the dialog box, choose "Background Contents: Transparent"
– Paste the copied graphic into new document (Edit > Paste)

Note though that document itself can’t be circular. If you need a circular image (e.g. for a web page):
– Pull down "File > Save for Web"
– Choose GIF or PNG as output format
– Make sure that "Transparency" is enabled
– Click "Save"
