Error message on saving for web

PE 2.0 has been running just fine on Windows XP for months, now suddenly a problem. I am trying to save photographs for uploading to my web site. As usual I do File/Save for Web but then I get the following message "Could not complete this operation because an assertion has failed"

Cannot find any reference in the Help files. Grateful for any guidance as to what I should do (have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no effect).
