I close it using the exit under file. While sometimes my computer will do automate updates during the night and shut down by itself. Either way it resets.
I dont know if this helps
4gb ram

video card is ATI which was just updated to the latest one.
make sure ps is completely shut down before shutting down the computer. other than that, i’m not sure what’s going on (yet), but something that might save you time…
set yourself up so that everything is the way you want it, exit photoshop, then save out your setting so you can recopy them back in later if (when) things reset. get the files and folders under documents and settings\your logon name\application data\adobe\photoshop cs3 and save them out somewhere else. that way when everything resets, you can copy them back and be back the way you like without having to do it all by hand again.
Maybe you could try manually deleting ALL of Photoshop’s preferences manually (that is, root them out and manually drag them to a temporary folder or to the trash for a minute). Don’t completely ditch them by emptying the trash, just move them out of their original folders for awhile.
Make sure you save out any custom brushes, presets, shapes etc first. Best way to do this is with the Presets manager.
Then launch Photoshop, set things the way you like it and see if the problem still occurs.
