I hope I can adequately express myself…Here it goes; I have a layer which I’m using for a border. It is one solid color but it has been erased and given a texture. I would like to save all its attributes and change it from its current orange color to a specific green color. I’ve tried adjusting the color balance and the hue/saturation but these don’t give me the control I need and the results are poor. I’ve tried replacing color but still not enough control. If I know the exact mix of the color I want the layer to become is there a way to just plug it in?– keeping in mind that there is a texture to the original layer at this point. Thanks so much.

If it’s on it’s own layer, desaturate it so it appears black. Now add a color overlay layer style and set the color you want and the blend mode to color.

Look in your users manual under, of all things, "Replace Color."

Bob- Thanks very much. It worked beautifully.

Ken. Photoshop 7 doesn’t have anything in the manual under "replace color" nor "color replace". I guess I assumed that it would be ok to ask a question in a user to user forum if I was looking for help. Geez, you must just be a real joy to work with.

Again, thanks Bob.

That’s funny, since the name of the command is "Replace Color".

No, she’s right. The Photoshop 7 manual has nothing specifically under "replace color" or the inverse. I read through the whole section in the index. Nothing under commands either. If you’re under the gun and need an answer quickly, this is the logical place to come, I would think.

Bob, excellent answer. I’m learning so much just from reading these posts. There’s alot books can walk you through but there’s nothing like another’s real-life experience if you ain’t got it on your own yet.

"The Photoshop 7 manual has nothing specifically under "replace color" or the inverse."

In the printed manual, true. The online help does have an entry for Using the Replace Color command, but it’s just ‘drag the slider until you get the hue/saturation you want’ which is exactly what Julie wasn’t looking for. In short, RTFM is a pretty poor bit of advice here.

Good answer, Bob.
