Just upgraded to CS and everything seems to be working good except the Eraser Tool. The Eraser Tool in Brush or Pencil mode is very very slow, but works fine in Block mode. When I erase anything there is about a 5 second delay before I see the changes on the screen and during that wait Photoshop is pretty much unresponsive. After it’s back from whatever it’s doing then the erase takes place and I can continue working. It’s not sporadic, it does it every time. I still have PS7 on the machine and that is working correctly and so is Image Ready 7 and CS, both of those handle the Eraser Tool correctly. All other tools in CS are responsive as they have always been in PS7 but this Eraser tool problem is unbearable.

I have stopped pretty much all software and services that didn’t have to be running for the OS to operate. I have removed all my added presets, cut my fonts list down to bare minimum, basically everything I could do and nothing has helped.

Windows XP Pro SP1 (all current updates installed)
P4 2.53GHz/533Mhz Bus
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB – Newest Drivers (3.10)
1GB DDR – Two Modules (512MB Each)
120GB IBM (Startup Disk)
250GB Maxtor (Scratch Disk)

I’ve tried tweeking all CS settings, nothing has improved this problem, I tried default settings, nothing helped their either. Been using PS since version 3, never had a problem before.

Other than this, I am very happy with CS, but this problem makes it unusable for me.

Please help!

Take care,
Shannon

Incase anyone runs across this problem, switching the brush on the eraser and then resetting the eraser brush fixed it for me.
