On launching PS CS a "Welcome Screen" pops up, containing links to various sources of information about the product. Two of the links, ("Advanced Techniques – Online" & "What’s New Movie – Online"), produce the error message "Could not complete your request because of a URL processing error" when I click them.

There is no visible way to understand what the "URL processing error" might be, nor does Photoshop offer a way to repair the error. Is there anyone here who might know the solution to this problem?

Dennis,

Well the links are to:

http://www.adobe.com/products/tips/photoshop.html

and

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/newfeatures.html

and work fine from here. You DO have an open internet connection active when clicking on them, don’t you?

Yup. The DSL is always on.

Thanks for the links though – they work fine from here. Just not from within Photoshop. Basically nothing that is supposed to connect to the Web from within PS works. Could this have something to do with the fact that I did not install it on the same drive as Internet Explorer?

And if that’s so, is there an easy fix? (Well, the obvious is to reinstall PS to the C drive, but I’d rather not if I don’t have to, as I believe that would mean I’d have to use up the second of my two "activations" – PS is on a separate physical drive from IE.)

Installing on two different partitions on the same machine only uses 1 licence slot so I assume it is the same for different drives.

Thanks, but as there is only one way to find out for sure, I’ll wait to see if there is another solution.

you’re not blocking PC CS online access with a firewall are you?

No firewall installed. Len suggested that it may be something down on the Adobe side – are you guys able to access those links ok?

yes i tried it. Do you have xp? that has a built in fire wall you may not realize is on… (control panel> network connections – select your connection, right click, proporties> advanced> internet connection firewall). i turned it off and use zone alarm instead. much more control over incoming and outgoing traffic.

Not running XP on the Photoshop machine – Win2K here. I’ve used Zone Alarm and Black Ice Defender in the past, but flying without a net these days.

Oh well, as long as there are workarounds, I guess I’m not missing much.

I do appreciate your help, however – thanks!

No, definitely not……

Still, I do wish Adobe could have explained what the "URL processing error" actually was, and given a method for addressing the problem. This error message is about as opaque as they come.

Way to go, Adobe.
