I need to buy a new computer monitor. I have been looking at the older CRT and the newer LCD types. Which is better for graphics work ? I need a monitor that is accurate for graphics work, and can display a graphics image just as it was rendered. Any recommendations ?

Google

Stupid reply. I think a log of questions poster ask could easily be found on Google, but this is not one. What better place to ask about monitors to used with Photoshop than in this newsgroup. That said I do think CRT are a better buy for accuracy and display than a LCD. Not because of price because the prices of LCDs are falling, except the high end very good LCDs are still high. I think a monitor manufactured with a Sony true flat screen tube with a high refresh rate at 21 inches are the way to go. I have a couple of Sun monitors for the PC and they are bright vibrant and display colors closer to what you get when you print. Again this is an opinion.

Its not actually the monitor that matters its the card.

If your have s ome cash to blow get a radeon x600, you wont be disapointed

A bit lower down is the 9600 also a fine card

If you must go absoluteley lower nothing less than a
9250.Although a 9550 is only

NO. We’re talking about Photoshop. Photoshop is 2D and all the 3D power in the world won’t make a spit of difference. The monitor is far more important.

Hecate is quite right the graphics card does not make much (any) difference to PS I have a super fast 3d graphics card in addition to my onboard graphics adapter, and to be honest there is no difference between to two.

in terms of the monitor, the general consensus of opinion seem to be that LCD monitors are still not really much good for photographic work unless you spend a fortune on one, however they are very good for graphics work. so if you are doing photography go for a CRT screen and if you are doing graphics go for a LCD, of course the ideal set up would be a twin screen machine with one CRT and one LCD
