I’m pretty new to both the web design/publish thing and also to PS. I just spent my 600 on CS
I use PS, PSP and also FrontPage for finished web product.

I am a li’l confused about layers and tables I hope someone can help me?

Is there any way for me to create my tables in PS before saving the .html for FP to read? Should I create my text and image placemarkers in PS afore saving to .html? how do I do that?
Or, should I just save the best I can in PS, save off to .html, pick up in FrontPage and then deal with my layers and tables for text and image placement?

I don’t know which is best to do or, how to do it!
1 thing I can do easily is the slice and design in PS but I have to do the ..html FP Layers and Tables for my regular text and image content on a web page.

Does that make any sense? Clearly, I’m not being clear! but I am confused! Thanks.

I use Photoshop to layout a design. PS is good for visualization.

Then, I take the PS information and I use Dreamweaver to create the web site. I do this because DW writes better HTML and I have more control. I guess FrontPage is ok, though I personally don’t like MS programs.

Then, I make the slices in PS and make the images for the web page. Actually, I use ImageReady because it is more for web work but PS can do the job too.

——-
Bottom line. Use what is best and you are most comfortable with.

Thanks bogus.

I would love to get DreamWeaver but….I just purchased Photoshop – even though I’m a 10+ yr PaintShopPro user – that was $600.00 I don’t see Dreamweaver in my budget this week!

1 more Q. pls.?

1)… So, I have my finished web page in PS ready to get chopped up to go to ..html

2)… I save to .html and then go and Open the .html in FP

3)… Those FP ‘Frames’ & ‘Tables’ are then needed – as placeholders – for the web page text and .jpg insertions.

My question then is:
Is there a way to have those picture and text placeholders in the original ..psd file afore they get .html’d AND that they’ll be interpreted seamlessly by FP???

So, I can just start placing pictures and typing text into FP

I don’t really like FP either but until I start selling some web pages………..!!!!

Thank you

well youd use imageready to do the slicing and out put the optimized site
that should import into frontpage except that front page is a peice of junk 😉

I wouldn’t open the html from Photoshop in FP. Each program seems to have it’s way of dealing with html. I would build the page in FP, even if it meant more work, then slice and and save the images from PS to put in the FP file.

I could be wrong and FP could handle the html from PS with no problem. But I just did a site where I tried to use the html from ImageReady in Dreamweaver and it didn’t work.

Regarding your question about the PS output. You could output the html from PS but just use the iamges. As long as you use relative paths, FP should be able to find the images. Just keep everthing in the same directory structure.

As I said, whatever way works best for you, that is the best way to do it. I am only recounting my experiences.

good luck

Yes, thank you, I am doing the slicing and optimizing and exporting from ImageReady – I didn’t mention that….

I needed to know about text and picture placeholders / tables and frames – not slicing and exporting so much.

…..and DreamWeaver is too expensive for me to purchase at the moment.

FP might well be ‘junk’ I’m not professional enough to know – but I do know it works for a lot of people and enables us poorer and less experienced web site designers to publish quick and easy sites!

It certainly publishes in ‘recognizable’ format but it works – just like my Honda….

Thank you.

I have both Dreamweaver and FrontPage. I use both. Dreamweaver is perfect for the actual coding of the website, it goes out of its way to make my life easy. FrontPage, over the years has gotten slightly better, you can control its messing with your code, but its purpose is uploading to my web site via http. Love it.

If you can’t have Dreamweaver, FrontPage will do the job. Just make sure you do not cut and paste into it from any other Microsoft product without using notepad as an intermediary.

Photoshops html is no great shakes either. and should be edited.

I usually find it easier to use an FTP program or DW’s built in FTP software.

If you can’t have Dreamweaver, FrontPage will do the job. Just make sure you do not cut and paste into it from any other Microsoft product without using notepad as an intermediary.

Easier than that, do the file in Word, export to DW and use it to auto weed out all the crap MS puts in a Word html file. Works well and is simple to do.

Photoshop’s html shouldn’t be used at all. Save yourself a lot of grief – use PS for what it’s good at – image editing, and use a proper web design app for the web. And don’t install Image Ready unless you want hours of grief.
