Hello all!

Question regarding print size-

I open up a photo taken with my digital camera in PS 8.
Image / Image Size says its 1600(w)x1200(h) pixels and 8.889 x 6.667 inches at a resolution of 180 pixels/inch.

Since I want to print this on 4×6 photo paper I crop the image selecting the crop tool and entering in 6in for the width and 4in for the height to maintain proportions and nothing in resolution box. I draw the crop box over the portion of the image I want to keep and crop.

According to the left and top rulers the image is now 4in x 6 in. Perfect! However, when I go to print preview the sides of the image have been further cropped. The information in the print preview screen says;

Scaled Print Size
Scale: 100%
Height 4 in
Width 6 in

If I check the box labeled "Scale to Fit Media" the preview image is now the complete image with white borders on the top and bottom and the information in the Scaled Print Size section is changed to;

Scale: 88.88%
Height: 3.556
Width: 5.333

Why does the image need to be scaled to fit media even though I have already cropped it to 4 x 6 size?

Thanks very much!

Because you use a printer that can’t printer borderless?

Also, if your printer can print borderless, you should not have to check any box that says ‘scale to fit media’ since you have already done that! Additionally (again if your printer can print borderless) in the print dialog boxes that appear when you click on ‘print with preview’ you should see an option to choose 4×6 borderless.

Does you printer do full bleed images? (I.e. does it print the full width and height of the paper? Some do, some don’t).

Don’t click "Scale to Fit Media", click Print, ignore message and click Proceed. Do borderless printing.

If you are doing borderless printing, do not get Colorvision’s PrintFix to profile your printer. At least on my Epson, it does not allow borderless printing. I had to send mine back.
