I’m about to add a second monitor (CRT type) monitor to my computer. I already have an ATI All-in-wonder Radeon card w/ 32 MB DDR memory in my AGP slot that drives a ViewSonic flat panel model VP181. I want to drive a second monitor (Sony Multiscan E400) on the same computer so I can get better color representation of what my prints will look like. The second card must go in a PCI slot and be compatible with my existing card. Please recommend what card I should buy.

I’m running PhotoShop 7 on an XP computer.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Dave

You could stay with ATI and get the 7000 dual display.
This way, for $80 you have the possibility to add two monitors to the one you have.
You think three is too much? try it! You’ll never go back to one or even two monitors only.

Thank you Stephan, That is exactly what I’ll do. I suspect that the 7000 Dual display is a wise choice because it is designed to work in a multi-monitor mode and because it is made by ATI it is likely to be compatible with my existing ATI All-in-wonder Radeon card.

I doubt that I will ever go to THREE monitors because of limited room on top of my desk . It already has my computer, the very large Epson stylus photo 2200 printer, a legal size flat bed scanner, a Nikon LS-2000 film scanner, and a phone on it. I’m considering buying a telescoping support for the ViewSonic flat panel monitor that attaches to the wall to make room for just two monitors.

Again, thanks for you help. I’ll order the ATI 7000 today.

Stephan;

Thanks again for your recommendation of the dual monitor driver but the delivery man just delivered the MonacaoEZ color package to my door. This is a color calibration system that matches the colors of monitors,scanners and printers. It states on the outside of the box, "Single video cards with dual monitor support are not supported on the Windows Platform." This meand that I must have a seperate video card for each monitor. I’m now considering the ATI PCI 9500 pro.

Thank you for your help.

I guess what it means is simply that you can only calibrate your main monitor.
Same thing with Adobe Gamma by the way.
This doesn’t prevent you from having as many monitors as you wish to have. If I am wrong somebody will let us know here

You’ve only got one Vlut per card – makes sense to me.

Thank you for the help. I finally decided to buy a PCI ATI Radeon 7500. It works great with my old ATI All-in-wonder Radeon card. I can rotate my LCD to the vertical mode and it still lets me drag images from one screen to the other. I have the LCD working in a pure digital mode to provide very crisp images. Of course the CRT is analog and gives me a brighter image. I have calibrated both monitors using the Monaco System. The colors now match from screen to screen and from scanner to monitor to printer. I’m delighted and don’t know how I ever got along with only one monitor.
