I have about 50 or 60 photos, all the same size, and I was wondering how I batch resize them, either to a certain size or percent, it doesn’t matter.

How would you assess your skills/ability to write Photoshop Actions? That’s the prerequisite skill.

Knowing this will dictate the advice content and level of detail.

pooon,

My "friend" Danny is being "humble", so I want to share with you this incredible site that Danny has put a ton of effort into creating having to do with "actions." I would say start at section 144 that deals with introducing batch automation.

Personally, I’m pretty new at photoshop and am very excited to have such a detailed reference source for becoming proficient at "actions."

Well, if pooon has never written actions, I’d suggest he/she get familar with them before jumping into batch automation.

If this is the case, checking out some of the tutorials listed in section VI-1.2 would be a better (and less hostile) place to get started.

Thanks, Patty, for the kind words. 🙂

Pooon,

In general, you create an action that resizes one image the way you like it, and then include Save As.. in the action. Record physically saving the file.

Look next to the Save As portion of your action in the actions palette and toggle the dialog to off – so you won’t be prompted for each image.

You do it for one image in order to create the action.

Then you use File|Automate|Batch.

Action to run: The one you created above
Source: Folder
Choose: Pick the folder containing your images
Destination: Folder
Choose: Choose a folder where you want them to go
Override action "Save As" commands: CHECKED – Important

Optionally choose a naming convention and hit "go". Go get some coffee. Your images will open one by one, resize, save in the format you chose, and close.

Peace,
Tony

No doubt that you are correct in "starting at the beginning"—I’m one of those impatient types that dives in where the need arises.

But hey– you lead a horse to water and then let them start drinking wherever it works for them—isn’t that a famous quote??
