I think you may need to clarify your question in order to garner any meaningful answers. When you say

do you mean another layer of your image? So you wouldn’t have a "no image" slice anymore?
Generally, it’s wise to avoid creating any image you don’t have to in order to lessen page "weight" or length of download.

No, just add some text to a htm page say either in ImageReady or "over the top" when IR gif/jpg’s are in say, FrontPage? I just don’t see the advantage of learning how to format my text in html which I would very reluctantly learn, when I can use pretty drop down boxes everywhere else!
