Windows XP home edition, photoshop7.1. Digital picture taken with Sony model mvc fd88 1.3 mega pixels jpeg image file size 337KB. Subject is a white male wearing short sleeve shirt and dark pants. Picture taken from approx. 4ft indoors in a room brightly lighted with sun light. The subject is shown in full body from the knees up. Picture is in excellent focus. I am attempting to zoom in on the arm of the subject using Photoshop 7.1. to illustrate details of the wounds on subject’s arm. So far each attempt results in the area bein distorted an out of focus.
Suggestions????

You can’t get more detail after the fact. Zooming in to an existing image only brings out the pixels of it.

When I need enlarged details I make additional shots during the session.

What you can do is enlarge the details only half way as you would like, but it still looks blurred and pixellated.

I think it’s just a question of lack of pixels.

1.3Mpx is just about enough to make a full frame 6×4 print. It sounds like you are trying to zoom in on less than 10% of the image, which, if you made a print at acceptable resolution, would be around the size of a postage stamp.

This sounds like a difficult situation – the word "wounds" gives me that idea. Is there any possibility to take the picture again? I’m guessing not. But getting in closer to the area in question is what’s required.

If you are desperate and want someone else to take a look just to be certain. Come back here and I’ll give you an email address.

that’s the feature I want to see in PS 9 CS2!

oh, sorry, you’re from the other side of the pond right? ๐Ÿ™‚

csi is a cop drama show. it stands for "crime scene investigator". they pull this trick out about every other episode.

Colin,

It’s on about 3 times a week (or so it seems <g>) on Channel 5 in the UK

"The Agency" (late of CBS) took a reflection in a stainless steel round kitchen bowl, in the corner of a video surveillance TV frame, and enhanced it to look like a publicity still of the actor who played the bad guy. Really.

This sort of programmes is on tv here (Holland) too!
Fortunately my old Philips TV exploded in the late ’80’s, and it’s cabinet performed as a cat’s toilet ever since.

Let’s see… the original poster wants to know how to blow up details, then exploding TV sets. Yeah, it’s still on topic.

Your are absolutely correct regarding the situation. Also about being able to re shot the picture. Subject was murdered by the person who had privously attacked him (his wife)

JOE

Have you played around with the channels at all? Open Channels palette, and play with adjusting contrast on whichever channel seems washed out. When you click on the chanel color, it will give you a grayscale image of that color channel, and you can tweak contrast, or sharpen that chanel selectively and sometimes come out with a little more detail than you can see in the original.

Good luck.

Joe, your question was answered in the first two posts. You can’t make pixels where there are none, and your camera didn’t capture enough pixels to enlarge past about 4"x6".

Once the issue at hand was taken care of, it’s perfectly normal around here for a discussion to wander aimlessly off in other directions…regardless of how many people want to help you, the first two said it all. What more d’ya want?

Back to cat boxes and television…Our newest cat has the strange fixation of liking to watch toilet bowls flush. Not to drink the water, mind you, they have their own water fountain drinking bowl with a charcoal filter. He just likes to watch the flush and bowl refill…If he hears the bathroom door close, he’ll go and stick his paw under the door and wave it back and forth until you open the door, at which time he runs to the toilet, stands up to look in the bowl, and waits. If you’ve already flushed, he stares into the white porcelain until the water stops running…We call it "Cat TV"…
