I have lost the directory tree in File Browser. I have since tried installing and reinstalling PS 7 and the 7.0.1 upgrade (which now fails every time). I have also tried a repair of Win XP. Still no tree.

In the top left Pane of the File Browser window there is a desktop icon and nothing else. If I double click it an error message is deliverd "could not repeat your request because of a program error"

Any ideas?

Martcol, when you have the browser open, look at the bottom of the image window on the left side and you will see a double arrow. Click on that to get the tree back.

I wish it were that simple….

That double arrow takes away the panes for image preview, details and the folder tree. I can get all those but I can’t get the tree in the pane.

There is a simple icon (desktop) which I click on but if I try to expand it PS tells me there’s a program error.

You say that you have ‘lost’ the tree. Does this mean that it has worked at some point?

I have a similar problem – no tree in the LH pane of the browser, but PS doesn’t crash when I try to access the browser. Clicking on the (unlabelled ) folder in the LH pane brings up the contents in the RH pane, and I can drill down from there to reach the required folder. Thumbnails are then displayed and can be opened. The browser has never worked correctly for me since I first installed PS7.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that this is related to XP, but I could be wrong. It’s possible that it’s the way that I configure my PC’s that is causing this, as I’ve completely reinstalled XP and Photoshop in the last few months (when I upgraded my PC). I hoped that the browser would work on the new PC but still no luck!

As the PS Browser is so clunky (in my installation), my solution is to use Breeze Browser with PS set as the editor.

It seems probable that our browser problems are related – if so it looks as though I’m getting off lightly!

Sorry this isn’t of any help to you, but it may be some consolation to you that you’re not the only one with a problem.

Thanks Jester, it is some consolation. A problem never seems as bad when you no someone else shares your misery. I tended not to use PS Browser at all then one day noticed this problem. I prefer to view using BB or C1. Still, problems in programs always make me nervous. I wonder what else is being interfered with….

Regards

Martin

Just a thought – check your Folder View options in XP and see if you are limited there as to what you can view, i.e. Folder levels, Files, File Types, Extensions. Might be a setting has changed in XP and it is causing a problem in PS7. On the default settings, not much is visible in XP in its browser, until you uncheck a bunch of restriction boxes.

I can’t check this out as I only have CS on an XP machine and 7 on a Win2K machine. PS Browser works fine in each of those.
