It’s hard to describe but has anyone seen the type effect that looks pretty cool – a sort of block type that looks as if it’s been scrubbed and parts of it are faded – you see it on trendy posters. Does anyone know how to achieve it in photoshop?
I know it’s a bit vague but someone might know what I’m trying to say. Thanks.

Mmmm… Perhaps you need to look around for a ‘distressed’ font. There are tonnes of such-like on the web [do a search on google or try www.dafont.com just for starters]. Maybe even subscribe to the alt.binaries.font newsgroup.

I think you need to know about ‘clipping groups’.
For a tutorial about the technique, look at
http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/pctext/pctext2.htm. Janee’s examples don’t look like the particular effect you’re after, so choose an appropriate texture, colour etc for the infill..

There are loads of other tutorial sites e.g.
http://www.absolutecross.com/tutorials/photoshop/, or look for ‘photoshop text effects’ on Google
