With computer problems around the office I have been forced to go back to Photoshop 7 on Windows XP for the time being. However I have discovered a nasty little problem of Photoshop crashing right after I launch the program.

I can’t figure it out; I launch the program and go to open a "new" image and it crashes. I open and existing file and once the image comes up it crashes. I try to access the "Preferences" and it crashes.

When it crashes none of the interface buttons respond, the menu’s are grayed out, and the "X" close button is grayed out. The only thing I can do is force it to "end program" in the task manager.

Not knowing what was causing the problem I uninstalled and reinstalled the program but the problem did not go away!

Photoshop was working up until just yesterday but now it is freaking out and I don’t know why.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Alison

Alison,

Time for the three fingered salute – ctrl-alt-shift – while starting Photoshop. When it asks whether you want to reset your prefs, say yes. —

Try trashing the preferences.
