I contacted Wacom via e-mail and was given a phone number. The guy I dealt with there was extremely helpful: calling me back, attempting to duplicate the problem on the phone… Very polite and helpful, even if we never ended up figuring out what the problem was.

I disabled the tablet and was able to reproduce the problem, so Wacom is off the hook.

It may well be a conflict with PS CS and USB mice. If so, that’s a pretty big deal. This is very frustrating, and this morning, PS CS hung while I was using the magnetic lasso tool on a 500kb JPG file. It seems to me–through my experiences and by reading through this newsgroup–that CS has a lot of major problems. It has gotten to the point where I’m ready to downgrade until these issues have been addressed.

It would be nice if someone from Adobe support would address more of the issues posted here, even if only to say, "You’ve found a bug, we’ll investiage it." If only Adobe support were as helpful as Wacom.

Don’t mean to be bitchy, it’s just that I rely on Adobe programs and a lot depends on these programs functioning.

Hi Al,

I just wanted to let you know that I’m looking into your problem; I’ve yet to reproduce it, but will continue working on it. We (Adobe) test a very large variety of tablets, mice, drivers, etc. Please keep in mind that there are a tremendous number of variables (beyond the obvious) that could be causing this. Any further details that you can provide will be helpful in my attempts to isolate your problem (driver versions, service pack of XP, memory allocated to PS, free disk space, file size, color mode, bit depth, etc.).

Thanks for your input,

-Bryan

Thanks for responding, Bryan.
driver versions,
Logitech mouseware 9.79
Wacom driver 4.78 (rolled it back to 4.76 and duplicated problem) XP service pack 1
22 GB free on primary physical drive
14 GB free on primary scratch disk (secondary physical drive)

Photoshop allocated 50% max of 512MB RAM

File sizes vary, but the largest was 40MB, and it did tend to happen more frequently with larger files.
Color mode RGB (haven’t tried others)
300 dpi, 150 dpi
PSD format

I terminated all unnecessary processes and was able to duplicate the problem. However, this computer is on a network, so anti-virus and other applications can’t be terminated.

Please let me know if you need any more information and thanks again.

I have not yet gone into details for drivers and so on, but I will after having read all of the above. I am using PS CS, WIN XP, Pentium IV 2GHZ, 1.5GB RAM, 300 GB IDE total space.

Using Microsoft keyboard and USB trackball, and a WACOM tablet. Also, miscellaneous stuff, Creative Sound Blaster Platinum, Canon Scanner (N 640 P) and an Nvidia 128 MB AGP video card.

The CTRL buttons do not work. Nor do the delete, or any other CTRL + related buttons. I tried to change the shortcuts, but that did not work.

I have not bought PS CS yet. This is the trial version.
