I want to right text in the shape of a boot print so that the letters look like the tread pattern of the boot. Any tutorials/examples on how to do this? The Warp Text tool only uses some predefined shapes. Thanks.

I believe I saw video tutorial for this 4-5 times but never tried myself to remember. I don’t even remember what it’s called (path?), but I know you just can draw any shape then the text will follow the shape.

Google may be?

You can have text follow a path (e.g. a curved line) or wrap inside a closed path, but I want the text to actually take the shape of the path (i.e. alter the type) and I don’t know how to do it other than with Warp Text, which only has predefined shapes to choose from.

Perhaps I have an incorrect mental image of the problem, but the first things you mentioned above should do what you want.

Can you post or point to a tresd pattern you wish to use? It might be easiest to show you by example.

It might even be quite simple. Treads are regular patterns so that one tread solution can be applied to the rest.

Photoshop can do it. Illustrator would be better, but if all you have is PS, then so be it.

Point to a tread pattern and I will post the solution some time this week.

If I use Warp Text and choose Fish, I get text shaped like a fish (see attached) and it’s still editable (which isn’t a big deal in my case). I want to do the same thing with a boot pattern instead of fish. By using a closed path, it doesn’t alter the text at all, it just wraps the text within the path. So I can get a pragraph that looks like a boot, but not just a word.

BTW, I do have Illustrator, but I’m not as familiar with it as PS. I did have a quick look around and only found the same options as PS.

I have found CorelDraw to be very good at this sort of thing. I would guess Illustrator would be good too, but I have never used it.

If you want a word shaped like a boot print, I’ll do it tomorrow, fate willing (we are in a flood crisis at the moment.) I did one for Red Wing Shoe as an idea that didn’t fly. Gads, is this for them?

No, it’s not for them, whoever/whatever Red Wing Shoe is. Thanks.

I am trying to guess what you want. Here. It’s a foot, not a shoe print. And rough because I don’t have much time.

Wrong tool for the job. You’re using a screwdriver to pound nails. For this kind of job, use Illustrator, not Photoshop; it’s a major pain in the ass in Photoshop, but it’s trivial to do in Illustrator.

Here’s a video showing one way to warp text and still keep it editable. http://tutorials.watchandlearnphotoshop.com/tutorials/ps/war p_text.html

It’s not exactly what I want, because I’d like to warp to an existing shape or path, but I can problably get the result I’m after by using this technique.
