Wierd deal: I save an ordinary JPEG as an EPS file and the files size doubles or triples. A friend of mine has done the same thing on his computer and the size goes way down. I’m using the same settings he is, which are:

Photoshop EPS
Use proof setup: Working CMYK

BUT – He has an option of selecting JPEG as the Preview and have only TIFF (1bit and 8 bit). Also, I am saving with JPEG compression (maximum)

Is it normal for the file size to bloat like this? My friends file sizes stay roughly the same.

2nd ?: Where’s my JPEG preview option?

Thanks,

David Woolf

So, hum what version of PS are you using? What about your friend?

BTW, it is normal for uncompressed EPS files to be much larger than JPEGs

We are both using PS CS. His is for Mac, mine for PC (Win 2000)

Goof in my original post. Should read: He has an option of selecting JPEG as the Preview and I have only TIFF (1bit and 8 bit).

Under Encoding, there are JPEG options, maybe he’s using that? I have no idea what those are for, as all my previous years in a mixed PC/Tosh workplace, never use anything but either ASCII or Binary.

Mac,

JPEG encoding basically compressed the image data with the JPEG algorythm (with associated loss of quality)

Ah, thanks for that info, Rene.
