Suppoz I have an 8.5×11 flyer full of type. But now I want to introduce a fat man in profile on the right side of the flyer facing in. I want to distort the type so that it looks as if that fat man’s belly is pushing the type (compressing it) and kind of conforming to the belly of the fat man, as if the left side of the type couldn’t move so with that fat man on the right, the only thing the type could do is get smashed by his belly. I don’t mean that the type conforms to the belly like a text wrap. More like a bulldozer pushed the type up against the side of a sphere. Is this a job for Photoshop? If so, can I get a clue as to how to do it?

Use the right tool for the job. In this case that would be a page layout program like InDesign or Quark. Photoshop is ill-suited for this kind of work.

But if you must, Align right and use the spacebar to push the type.

No. Use Illustrator and the distortion tools there.

Or better still, Xara X1, which is faster and has a superior interface compared to Illustrator.

If you haven’t got the other software mentioned here you could rasterise the text layer and try the Liquify filter tools.
