I have created a action to add a embossed watermark to my images, it works fine. I have attempted to make a Droplet using the same action, but PSCS does nothing. If I drag and drop a file on the droplet, PS opens then nothing. My os is XP.
Thanks

This problem has come up a couple times over the past 9 months or so. Do you still have the previous version of Photoshop installed? (I’m assuming you upgraded to CS from (say) PS 6 or whatever.)

Yes, I upgraded from 7.01 The batch command works fine, but when I try the same using a Droplet….nothing….I have no leftover files from 7.01. I can workaround it with the batch command, but it would be nice to be able to use a droplet.

Thanks

So, you most likely:
* Had PS7 installed
* Installed the CS upgrade
* Uninstalled PS7
* Discovered droplets under CS didn’t work …right? (or something like this?)

Your symptoms are similar to what others reported in that Batch works under CS, but droplets are DOA.

There are two paths that I’m aware of that resulted in success, the second of which might be useful to you:

1. Person A gave up on his current machine (situation very much like yours) after a fruitless engagement of Adobe support. He installed the CS upgrade on a new machine (he was going to do this eventually anyway), providing the PS7 serial number as part of the installation process. CS ran droplets as expected on the new box, that had never seen PS7.

2. Person B tried uninstalling/reinstalling PS7 and CS in every possible combination to no avail. He was not the administrator of his machine.

He finally had an admin-type technical co-worker log into Windows using the Administrator account. The admin tried a droplet and IT WORKED. (No other changes.) THe admin logged off and the guy who reported the problem logged into his user account and from then on CS droplets worked for him.

It was as though logging into the Admin account and invoking a droplet "cleared the pipes" somehow.

Note: I got this second hand, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think it’s fairly accurate.

If nothing else I hope this gives you a couple of ideas. Do report back if you make any progress or discoveries (good or bad) along the way. It would be nice to come up with a concrete solution for the next person who encounters these symptoms.

I’ve had problems getting droplets to work on PS6 and PS7. When I installed scripting, they started to work. Tried this same workaround on another computer and it didn’t. Thought I try a droplet with Imageready. Got an error message that the droplet couldn’t communicate with Imageready. Below is the error code that I got and Adobe’s response. Basically it says to create the droplet in Photoshop. We already know that doesn’t work. Then at the bottom of the article it says:

Additional information
Because of an incompatibility with the operating system, droplets created in ImageReady do not process files or folders correctly in Windows XP or 2000.
So I guess we are stuck with using the batch command to make actions work. Unless you luck out and your computer for some unknown reason will run a droplet.

I wasn’t aware of that incompatibility, Mark. Thanks for sharing that tidbit & the link.
