It looks like my 5-year-old Sony Multiscan is about to fade. Can anyone recommend a quality CRT monitor 19"-21"? I’ve looked into the Lacie with the hood, but have heard there can be problems in the mere presence of wireless devices (which exist in my office). Is this true? A salesperson suggested a ViewSonic, about which I know little. Nothing seems as good as my old 17" Sony, which had a .24 dot pitch. Any help would be appreciated. I’m PC-based and a graphic designer.

Thanks.

Hi.

The picture quality with a LaCie is very good, but it is quite a while since I used one, and there was a flicker due to the close by Tools Monitor. I would expect the shielding to have been upgraded since then, from memory it was bought new in 1999.

Duh, if you like the Sony Monitor buy another one. They just get better. Go for a 21 inch. In fact there are some great bargains on used monitors due to a lot of people going the LCD route. Look on places like Ebay where some outstanding deals can be made if you do local pickup. The Sun PC monitors are great monitors with Sony Tubes and flat screen and very low dot pitch.

LaCie or Iiyama if price is a consideration. But be quick they’re both stopping CRT production in the summer. And, FWIW, on a recent CRT test, those two companies were the only ones who would send in CRTs for the tests as the other companies, including Sony, refused to do so. Suggesting that they’re not going to be producing any either.
