This has happened before, and I dont remember what the problem was, but PS starts loading and then it closes before it finishes and so it never opens. Anyone remember what this is about?

Roger,

Delete the prefs per the FAQ on top of this forum.

Did that, as well as deleting the .fnt files as suggested and same thing happens, PS crashes on startup. the .psp files were named THOCR.PSP, XFILE.PSP, XOCR3.PSP and XSCAN32.PSP so i am not sure they were the right ones, there was no pspref.pxp files or anything simiiar, there were however psprop.dll files. I removed PS as well as the suggested PSP and .fnt files and reinstalled twice with the same results. Holding down ctrl/alt/shift on startup just brings up the photoshop.exe file properties, not the program preferences.

what version of photoshop? for ps 7 the prefs file is called:

"Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp"

cs and 6 are similarly named. i believe < 6 had a different name for the prefs file.

Somehow the documents and settings/roger beck/application data folder had been deleted and so the new settings had no where to go. All set now, thanks for the replies.
