Hi all,

I have a project I’m building in premiere pro that is 16 x 9 Frame size: 720h 480v (1.200)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2).

The photos I have are 3072 x 2048 pixels.
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square

I would like to use photoshop to size these images to this 16 x 9 format and correct pixel aspect ratio. I know that in doing this I will crop out some of the image but that is ok. I just don’t know the best way to accomplish this.

Can someone tell me there workflow in doing this?

Thanks,

Scott

I’ve deleted the back and forth insults as well as the duplicate topic leaving only Scott’s request for help.

I think we all need to lighten up just a bit.

I’ll not apologize for my wee bit of winking and rib poking, though.

That WAS lightened up.

Carry on!

The regulars know that but from what I can see it’s
Scott’s first post.

See what I mean? He’s a wise ass.
I have posted before. Many times. It’s just Phosphor is a bored forum rat that pounces on anything that passes by. He might call it "winking and rib poking" but it’s just simple snooty banter.

Scott,

If you’re using Photoshop CS then you can use a new feature that helps when working with non-square pixels. Create a new document and select 720×480 pixels. Then open the advanced options along the bottom of the new document dialog and select D1/DV NTSCS Widescreen 1.2 in the drop down menu. You can save a new preset if you’d like so all you need to do is create a new document with these settings already chosen for you. Once Photoshop opens you can work on your document as if it were square pixels. In the View menu you can turn Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction on or off to see what’s going on in the background. The only down side to this feature is the way it can create jagged edges, especially on curved surfaces, because Photoshop is really just stretching the image in a non-destructive manner for viewing purposes only.

If you don’t have Photoshop CS I suggest reading this webpage <http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/basic_ps.html>. I know it’s for Final Cut Pro but non-square pixels are non-square pixels and dealing with them is the same regardless of NLE. The only problems I’ve ever run across are with alpha masks. Some NLEs want to knock-out white while others like to knock-out black and the good ones will let you invert them on the fly.

Hope this helps.
