Im downsizing pics of my 5 MP camera, set at 5MPixels, by using the crop preset tool value of (W)1200 and (H) 1600, Resolution I leave blank. The original pic shows 72,,,, after the cropping is done, the edited pics shows a resolution of 1 and the pixels/inch value are not the 1200 and 1600 ……is there a setting that Im missing?? Im using Photoshop CS…..shouldnt the resolution also stay at 72 as default??? If I try to enter 72 before the cropping it gives me an disk cache error (????) please help me with this, is hard enough trying to deal with megapixels and file sizes…….Why is there such a drop of resolution???

thanks

You can simply change that in ‘Image Size’. Just don’t check the ‘Resample Image’ checkbox. Your problem is probably that you fill in "1200" in the crop tool presets, and do not look at what happens. The croptool will read this as "1200 cm" or "1200 inch". It will actually add this in that box! You have to type "1200 px" if you want pixels.

thank you, Im replying the group on this in case you dont get my post, you were right. Now, how can I downsize to a smaller file (like 200Kb or 300) and still maintain the same resolution (1200 X 1600px) and good overall quality??? I need to post these on a forum and size is very important….thanks

Use ‘Save for web’. Only 200 to 300 Kb for a 1200 x 1600 pixels file is pushing it, though.

Curious … what ‘forum’ even wants 1600 px imagery?
