Hi

I am fairly new with photoshop – ver 7 – and I hope someone can help

1) I have a picture of a perosn in white clothing on a white background – i want to remove the white background. What I was thinking of doing is to just ‘painstakingly’ removing it using the eraser – but is there a better way?

2) Is there a way to apply the gradient tool to the glow that you get with ‘outer glow’

thanks for any help

Yes, almost any way other way would be better. First of all, double-click on it in the Layers palette to change Background to a layer. You do not want to erase, you want to mask with a Layer Mask. I’d try the Pen Tool. Make a good outline then turn it into a selection and make your Layer Mask from that. There are various other methods. Look at the Channels. If there is one with some kind of contrast, duplicate it and enhance with Levels and make a selection from it.

There are lots of tutorials on the web for this. A basic but not always easy thing to do.

2) Is there a way to apply the gradient tool to the glow that you get with ‘outer glow’

Look at the Layer Styles dialog. There is the option in Outer Glow to use any Gradient.
thanks for any help
