I’m looking for a neg scanner i have two in mind, the Minolta scan elite 5400 and the Nikon Coolscan v ed.
Is the Minolta worth considering now they,ve ceased production of camera,s what sort of guarantee can be expected?
Thanks for any replies.

You have to ask the company. I wouldn’t touch a product from a company that was just sucked up by another company. In this case Sony. It wouldn’t help because I can’t stand Sony products. You end up paying for a name that just isn’t worth the price. Plus in this case their is no guarantee that Sony will honor anything.

I would ask the company if i thougt they would give an honest answer. It,s odd that the Minolta is advertised as a discontinued product and therefore should be heavily discounted but at

That is strange. Like you I doubt you would get an honest answer. When they sold out to Sony I am sure they aren’t going to say anything that might hurt Sony’s new sales.

Maybe the fact that you can’t get an honest answer for a simple question IS the answer to your question!?!?

I had a Minolta slide scanner and loved it. it was bit cheaper than the Nikon, had nice features and good software. Forgot the name of the model now. Lasted 5 years b4 it broke.

I got a Canon now. (canoscan FS 4000) since going digital I rarely use it. It won’t do larger film only 35mm and smaller. The interface is clunky and it’s very slow but it does clean the dust well in COLOR only. I found out (too late) that for BW negs the digital ice does not work!!!!

My first digital camera was a Minolta Dimage. They pissed me off when they charged us early buyers for the upgrade firmware they created for newer models. Other than that one negative, I loved my Dimage7 and still use it. Minolta was making the cameras under KONICA brand.
Did not know they sold scanners to SONY?
SONY usually overpriced but good quality stuff.
Konica Minolta Photo Imaging, Inc. ceased the camera business on March 31, 2006.

As of April 1st, 2006, Sony Corporation is providing customer service for Konica
