Someone i know wants to rat out their employer for using unlicenced and illegal use of adobe products.

The motivation is that my friend would like the company to actualy upgrade to CS2…lord knows they have the money.

so who does my friend contact? the company currently runs illegal copies of illy and PS on a publicly accessed drive.

Well, I hope you friend hates his job. If his bosses ever find out he is gone. Stupid thing to do just to get a new version of the software. Also sounds kind of fishy too since they are using illegal software it isn’t like the upgrade to CS2 would cost them much, so why wouldn’t they upgrade. Sounds like your friend is a dirty rat.

The above statement should not be taken as my support for piracy. It should be taken that decent people let other people sink themselves.

Completely in agreement, Heebee.
If someone would like to sink some else,
they should not run around borrowing
something to make a hole in the boat with.
Specially when most probably his own boat
is full of holes.

Why?

He, (not his friend) is (probably) fired for not doing his work. Now he want to hit back at the firm on a anonymous and cheap way.

Call Adobe’s customer support number (800-833-6687) or send an email to piracy (at) adobe (dot) com. Or, you can use the BSA Web site at

Or, you can go to the BSA Web site at

http://www.bsa.org/usa/

and report the piracy there. Adobe is a member of the BSA. The advantage of going through the BSA is that if the company is in fact fined for using pirate software, your friend will get 10% of all the money collected in fines.

In most states, firing someone for reporting illegal activity on the part of a company is against the law.

Ain’t gonna happen. The BSA has a very well-established track record; there is no affirmative defense against a legal claim of copyright infringement.

If the company is infringing, they can not claim harassment or malicious prosecution. If they are not infringing, then the BSA doesn’t initiate a lawsuit.

my "friend" has not lost herjob. (yet lol)

but really would like to bust them a bit.

The firm she works for is huge and is very stingent about licences and protocol etc.

Thing is…they are wrong for using the program at all! She would love see them squirm a little bit.

She also would like to remain anon. Just wondrin’ if there was a way to rat the bosses out and remain anon. She hasnt actualy acted on anything yet.

Like in South Africa – stand on higway bridges and when cars passes underneath it, roll big rocks on it and run away, nevermind who is in it – or hide in a bush and through stones at the cars passing buy

That would be exactly the wrong reason to do it.

Either your personal ethics won’t allow you to run pirated software, and are therefore in conflict with your employer’s, and the right action is to quit; or you don’t care about running pirate software, in which case, the tip-off is purely hypocritical. You and your friend are clearly naïve if you believe that the outcome will be "a magical upgrade to CS2".

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) allows someone to make reports of copyright infringement that are completely anonymous. The BSA will not reveal your friend’s name, and your friend will still be eligable to receive a percentage of any fines that are collected.

www.bsa.org has an anonymous online piracy reporting form.

Yes, making your friend a total piece of shit in the process. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" The mother asks the child. "I want to be a big steaming pile of shit mommy!"

I see. So what you are saying, then, is that you advocate the right of all businesses to break the law, and if an employee of a business which is violating the law says something about it, that employee is a "piece of shit"? What an…interesting belief system you have.
