How do I make the white canvas black? I want to have an image surrounded by a black background, not white. I’ve tried to mess around with background colors but that doesn’t change the canvas. I’ve tried using the magic wand to color in the white background black but the edes of the image show pixelation so there is still a small halo of white around the image. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks. Ken

create a new layer
ctrl+del to fill it with background color
place it below all your previous layers…
do I understand your question?

Not sure if I’m placing it below properly, but don’t think it would work anyway because the white background of the canvas and the image on the canvas are one in the same. It’s one layer, canvas and image, as one. So, even with the second black layer underneath, it won’t show up through the white canvas/image layer. Somehow, I’d like to get a black canvas on which to layout some photos…..thanks…Ken

Go to Image > Canvas size > tick relative > increase by however much border you require in cm – pixels whatever!! – choose background or foreground colour > click OK

Hi.

I assume that your picture already has a white border around it.

You tried changing that to Black, and found a slight overlap or underlap at the boundary.

Try again, select the image with the rectangular marquee with feather set to 0, and take it just inside the picture.

Then "Select" > "Inverse" and "Edit" > "Fill with Black".

If you want a bigger border then just add Canvas and select Black in the canvas dialogue.

Glad it worked.

It is even better if you have a fine line between the edge of the picture and the border, just to emphasise where the Pic ends and the border starts.

To do this you would crop off any existing border.

Then add a very small Canvas (0.02 inch) of a contrasting colour to your final border, before adding your final Canvas.

Hi.

I have used the "Stroke" method. But when I am adding a border, I am always starting from just the image, and I find canvas the easiest way, especially with "relative" selected.
