Installing PS CS with PS 7.01

I’ve installed PS CS (upgrade) and it left the old PS 7.01 intact. Is there any reason why I should retain 7.01? If I remove it, are there any issues (like shared files) I should be aware of before attempting removal?

You can safely remove 7.01- just when it asks if you want to remove shared files say "no".

I recommend that you leave 7.1 on computer. If you run into the REACTIVATION problem that some of us do, it will come in handy. If you use Explorer to see previews of psd files, that is another reason to keep it. Just my opinion.
