I am trying to warp an image to match a shape. I tried putting the two images in two different layers, and than warping the top target layer to match the one below, but there aren’t enough control points to match accurately.
Does anyone know of a way to warp an image to fit inside another shape?
Or make the warp grid subdivide into more than 9 sections?

— I am using CS2

Thanks

I am looking for something differant than a displacement map – I did try that and it didn’t do the job.
Also, I am not just wanting to overlay images. I want to distort/warp an image to fit inside another image/shape.

If the displacement map didn’t do the job, that suggests youdid not make the displacement map correctly. How did you make your displacement map, and what problems did you have?

This is easily done in Illustrator if you happen to have the CS2-3 suite. It’s called Warp with Object Above. You can then Export it to PShop after. Did you try the actual Warp feature(the one with about 10 different modes) in Pshop to try a best fit to your desired shape?

Just a thought.

I saved the pattern bitmap as a PSD and than applied it as a displacement map.
The problem is that it didn’t pull in the edges of the target bitmap to match the patterns.
As for using the warp feature, that was one of the things I tried, hense my wanting more than 9 subdivision areas.
The presets are no where near what I need – the shape is too irregular.

I will have to check out the Warp with Object Above feature; I believe I do have access to Illustrator.

Yes, that’s correct.

A displacement map uses light (white_ tones to distort in one direction and dark (black) tones to displace in the other. You can not simply save the shape you are trying to use as a displacement map. You must think carefully about how you want the image to be wrapped, and then create a displacement map that wraps the image in the correct direction.

The shape matching is what I am after – it is a 3d surface that I am mapping.

On a differant note: would anyone know where I would find the "Warp with Object Above" item?
And is it a conditional menu item? I have 2 bitmaps; would I have to trace or convert the pattern I am trying to match, to vector paths?
