Windows XP HE, SP2.
Suddenly, after more than a year’s good behavior, PS CS File Browser cannot display .NEF thumbnails or .NEF images in the preview window. I can double click on the generic thumbnail to load that image into the Camera RAW plug-in (4/16/2004, 4541kb) and can then OK to load the image into PS.
However, after uninstall/reinstall PS, System Restore, and checking for updates at NikonUSA and Adobe, File Browser still will not display a .NEF thumbnails or ,NEF images in the preview window.

Adrian:

I found the same problem. All of the NEFs currently on my hard drive have been processed. Some show in the browser and some don’t. Some will display in the browser if I click on the icon, and others won’t dsplay the thumb at all. I need to sit down and systematically look for differences between these. It’s possible some I had run through Capture and others through Bibble. I’ll have to look at their processing history. I have all my "virgin" NEFs archived to DVD, and will pull some of those back to see what happens in PS.

Photoshop should load and display NEF files from a camera. But NEF files from a scanner are completely different (despite using the same extension).

Also, make sure you have the latest version of CameraRAW installed.

Chris:

These NEFs were from a Nikon D1 (I thought), not a scanner. I have the latest ACR 2.4 update installed, but after looking at the nefs I had on my system, I saw that the one that will not display in the browser or open is from a Nikon D2X. And so I wait, along with all the other D2X owners.
