Hi all
I am sure this have been mentioned before and if it has, I apologize. My problem is with "Save for web" …. I have some graphic text that I have made using Photoshop 7 and it looks ok IF I use a white background on a web site ….. but I want an image behind it. When I do, the text has little white dots on the edges of the graphic text. Is there a way of correcting this …. i’ve been pulling my hair over this for hours.
Thank you for any help.
I can’t upload the image to show you and I hope I have described the problem clear enough. Sorry if I haven’t.

You need to set the matte color in the save for web window. White is the default color. Use a color that matches the intended web background color. Over patterns or photos the matte mismatch will be more or less visable.

Hi
I would like to thank Tom Thackrey and Shank Williams for replying so quickly.

Yes, it was a "gif halo" as such … I have now sorted it thanks to Shank. When saving I turned the matt to "none" and that did the job. It’s been a looooong time since I needed to create a pic like I needed and last time I never had the problem. I just couldn’t work out what I was doing wrong ….. I won’t forget that one in a hurry <G>

Thank you both

I assume you are trying to save a GIF with a transparent background. The problem is that the anti-aliasing dithers the edges of the image to the background color BEFORE you save it. When you load it on your web site you get the fringing if the background color doesn’t match the one it was created with. Basically you have two choices (AFAIK) 1) create the image over the background color of your web site then delete that color before saving for the web. 2) turn off anti-aliasing. Neither of these are particularly great solutions. The first means you have to create a separate version of you image for every background color which sort of defeats the point of transparency. The second means your art looks like it was created in MS Paint. Note that with method 1, you are usually OK if the background colors are close since it’s dithered anyway.
