Is there a way to change the shape of the marquee once it is set without having to delete it and starting over?

I sometimes use the magnetic lasso and try to get it exactly where I want it and may succeed almost all the way around and then slip on one little section so I have to delete it and start over. Arrrgh!

So can the marquee be shaped after it is on to move it onto the points I need?
Thanks

In PS CS, make your selection using the Marquee tool, Then Select>Transform Selection to get all the Free Transform tools to shape the marquee further. Good luck! . . . patrick

Thanks Patrick but when I click on free transform and try to change the marquee all it does is pull away whatever part of the picture that is in the marquee. What I need to do is have the marquee almost like it is a layer and be able to manipulate it without have the actual picture move.

Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks again

Right click inside the selection and choose "Transform Selection" NOT "Free Transform".

In the top bar there are those little squaires (add to selection, subtract from selection, etc.). So if you click on one of those, you can redo the part which is out of shape and it will not discard your previous step. Try it, you’ll love it.

Shift key lets you add to existing selection and Alt key lets you subtract from existing selection.

Hope that helps,

Draw your marquee generally as you want it.
Go to Select>Transform Selection
You can then scale, skew, rotate, move, distort or create a perspective on the selection.
You can pull just one side or top or bottom to expand/contract that side. Right click inside the selection to get the above menu. You can always move with the cursor inside the marquee. Use the arrow keys to nudge the move functions.
To scale the marquee select SCALE, then draw in or out on one of the corners with the cursor to maintain the aspect ratio..
If you rotate, you can select the rotation point by dragging the center marker to yuour desired rotation point.
To cancel the last operation, use the Ctrl-Z key.
To cancel the entire transorm, click on the circle with a diagonal inside to the right of the Options Bar.
To accept the tansorm, click on the check mark at the right of the Options Bar or ENTER.

If you hve noto used the transform function before, it might be a good idea to fill an image with a solid color, draw the marquee, and practice the various menu items to see just how they behave.

Good luck!
