I have a logo that is an illustrator eps. Is there a way to make the logo a transparent jpeg? Everytime I try it ends up making the background white.

Please advise.

Jpgs can’t have a transparent background. Use the gif format instead.

That is what I was thinking. I have to provide the logo with a transparent background to an international printer and they do typically use illustrator eps files which is what I always send to US printers.

Any suggestions? Maybe a TIFF?

Sorry, I wouldn’t have suggested gif if I had known you were sending it to a printer! If the printer doesn’t accept eps files then you should ask them what they DO accept- any half decent printer will be happy to tell you, because that saves them work at their end!

"…any half decent printer will be happy to tell you, because that saves them work at their end!"

And any half-decent customer will do their best to listen to the printer, and learn how to do what they’re being instructed upon.

Layered TIFFs don’t have universal support. I suspect sending them a ..PSD would be better than a layered TIFF

Well, send them EPS files. (did I miss anything?)

I meant to say the printer DOES NOT accept eps files (which is very odd). I will send the PSD doc and see if they can use that. Thanks for your help.

Really, the best thing to do is to ask them first.

I wonder what printer they are using…. and on what colour paper…

Confused and Confuscious once say: You print white, on white paper, you end up with WHITE.

White on transparent paper ends up transparent… unless you lucky and have an old ALPS printer….

True. It IS a telltale sign. But sometimes you get a printer who may know what they’re doing but the person behind the counter or who answers the phone does not have the vocabulary to say "I don’t know", so they say "no", authoritatively.
