When batch scanning slides with Nikon Scan as the TWAIN source the images (50 max) are just cascaded into the Photoshop window and are not saved to disk automatically.

Nikon Support Service asked me to pose the following question to Adobe. "Does PS CS/CS2 have the option for batch scanning slides and saving them automatically?"

Nikon states that the "Host Application", i.e. using Photoshop IMPORT, controls file saving as the slides are scanned because Nikon Scan software is being used like a plugin.

Dell 8250, 1GB Ram, 120GB HD, 54GB free disk space,
Windows XP Small Business Ed, Currently using PS CS (upgrading soon to PS CS2).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

No. They are open images within photoshop and the user can do whatever they like to them – edit, delete, save, etc. You can batch the saving of the files – I do that every day. However, there is a glitch in CS2 that reverses their save order. I’m told it will be fixed by the next version. Depending on your needs, this may or may not be an issue.

If you are looking to save as you scan, you might be well advised to check out VueScan <http://www.hamrick.com/>. It is a standalone, twain independant scan application that is not only powerful, but a favorite of many.

Peace,
Tony
