For some time I’ve been experiencing problems in regards to opening documents with Photoshop (7 and CS2) whereby their brightness and saturation becomes darker. However when I export them as a .jpeg or .gif or .tiff etc they become lighter again. So far I’ve tried reinstallation of 7 and even upgraded to CS2 which I reinstalled as well with no avail. My specifications are

OS – Windows XP SP2
CPU – Athlon 2000+ XP
GPU – FX5700 LE
RAM – 1 gig of ddr ram
HDD – x1 60 gig, x1 20 gig
MOBO – Asrock K7VM2

Maybe you need to calibrate since Photoshop is color managed and most other software is not.

And do a bit of reading on colour management if you are not familiar with it. This is not a bad place to start: <http://www.gballard.net/psd.html>

didnt really get my head around the messages, i dont really want them to pop up everytime i open a file – or is this something im stuck with in order to get the right colour?

I don’t have PS7, but there should be options in Color Preferences along the lines of: always warn on mismatch, always open in image space, always convert to workspace, and/or always warn on no embedded profile.

Once you have gotten into the habit of usually saving image files with the profile matching your default workspace, these warnings will become less frequent. I left the warnings on (in CS and CS2) for that reason.
