Hi there!

Does anybody know how to mark layers in Photoshop CS? Used to do this in PS7 by holding down CTRL and clicking the layer in the layermenu. This seems to be missing in the new version, if not it’s pretty hard to find.

Any suggestions?

Regards, Christer

If this is what you are referring to:

You need to Ctrl+Right-click in the area highlighted in yellow on the sample file (above link).

Hi BLUDVLZ!

I’m sorry but I forgot something very important. I meant to say how you mark layers on the picture. Like when you hold down CTRL on the old PS and click a layer, that layer is being marked on the picture with a dotted line around it.

Thank you for replying though 🙂

So you’re talking about making a selection of that particular layer? If so, then just Ctrl+click on the thumbnail of the layer.

That’s the essence of my problem. It doesn’t mark the layer like it used to, it just selects the thumb on/off in the rightside menu.

Is there possibly a selection in the preference for this?

tick the Show Bounding Box option a tthe top of the screen.

IS that what you mean?

I would think that that is the solution, but I can’t find the Bounding Box option at the top of the screen. Neither can I find it in the preference. Funny, as it says in the helpfile that it’s suppose to be there..

make sure you have the selection tool activated the one that looks like an arrow head.

ok, I found the tool you were mentioning (thoght you meant the Move Tool).

But, again I’m sorry to say that didn’t fix. Still not able to make a selection through the Layer Tab. Just to be certain that there is no misunderstanding, I have made a PrintScreen from PS showing what I mean. When making a circle, for instance, there is a marking that you can fill with a color or whatever. I used to be able to make this same marking by holding down CTRL and clicking the Layer Thumb.

Thanks for the help so far, much appreciated.

Okay, I’m getting a bit more confused…

Sure you’re not thinking of Shape layers/Paths palette? Ctrl+click on these layers will still net you a selection.

Ha ha, well I figured so 🙂

Not thinking of shape layers or paths palette either, I’m afraid. I’m not that well known to PS and the terminology, so I don’t know how else to describe the problem.

Think I’ll just go for the PS7 again, saves me a lot of time and troubleshooting.

Thanks for the tips and effort guys!
