Hi all,
I’m learning PS CS2 and have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer

1) What are the advantages of working with a PSD file? over a TIF file?
2) Is it true that if your original file is a jpg that everytime you save it it loses image quality?
3) After I apply a filter change to an image, I notice that the settings that I applied in that filter remain constant for other images I open. Can I reset filters to their original settings?

Thanks for any help you can offer
Brad

Q1 Photoshop (Psd) Format
pros
Both Lossless And Compressed.
Supports Layers.
4Gb limit on file size.
cons
A number of programs won’t read psd.

Tiff Format
pros
Lossless.
Supports Layers (from v6 onwards).
Open standard – universally supported in native format.
4GB limt on file size.

cons
Native Tiff files can be quite a bit larger than Psd.
Compressed Tiff LZW files are similar in size to Psd files but not universally accepted.

Q2
Every time you open and save a jpg you are reapplying the compression algorithm to an already compressed file that has had data removed. This, obviously, will try to compress the file even more and lose more data in the process. Always save opened jpgs as psds until you are ready for your final output, then the psd can be converted to whatever format is required.

Q3
The filter settings are remembered as a time saving feature. When a filter is used you only have to go to the filter list and the last one used will be at the top of the list to use again or hit Ctrl+F key.
