Hi
I am trying to blur the background of a wedding pic. I have tried copying layers and then using the extract tool for the bride and groom. I then blur the background using lens blur on another layer. The effect is what I want (bride and groom sharp and background blurred), but a halo appears around the bride and groom.

Is there a better way of doing it, or how do I get rid of the halo?

Thanks in advance.

Double click on background layer (to make editable), CTRL "J" to layer copy, click on first layer, FILTER>BLUR>GAUSSIAN BLUR, adjust as needed.

There is no need to "extract" your subject prior to background blurring, it just needs to be protected from the blurring process. I would use one of the selection techniques described in
http://www.elated.com/tutorials/graphics/photoshop/selecting / You can do this with one of the methods in the tutorial or you could use Quick Mask mode to "paint" your subject, then exit QM (marching ants) and invert your selection to enable you to blur the selection. If you are overlaying the extracted B&G onto a copied blurred layer,( including the B&G) the halo you are seeing is the effect of the blurred B&G outline showing through from underneath.

duplicate the layer, extract subjects from top layer, on bottom layer use Filters>Blur> Gaussian blur, adjust to suit.

Thank you guys, guess it was the gausian blur that fixed the problem. Regards
