PSD flattened after saving pdf

After saving a psd as a pdf, the psd was flattened. Fortunately the pdf had the layers saved but I would like to know how to prevent this from happening again.

I am working in Photoshop CS2 on a PC.

How did you save the PDF? Save as? Save a copy?

In either event, that shouldn’t have had any effect whatsoever on the PSD.

I had done a save as. I recently switched computers. Another coworker had the same problem. There must be a setting somewhere.
